Costa Calida

The Costa Calida means ‘Warm Coast’ and is renowned for its excellent climate and especially warm winters – there are only two real seasons – Spring and Summer! The average temperature in January is 23 degrees centigrade and there are less than 40 days of rain per year. The World Health Organisation recently declared the province of Murcia to be the cleanest province in Europe due to its clean air.

The Mar Menor (Small Sea) is formed by a long strip of land known as LA MANGA, creating this large ‘lagoon’ which provides very safe and warm bathing (18 degrees in winter!) providing excellent conditions for all types of water sports. It is also a breeding ground for shellfish due to its high mineral content, which accounts for their excellent flavour – and also accounts for the healing properties of the nearby mud baths.

The area benefits from three different coastlines – the tranquil, crystal clear waters and sandy beaches of the Mar Menor itself, the superb white sandy beaches along the Mediterranean side of the strip, and around the headland the stunning rugged coast, renowned for its scuba diving.

There are many marinas, including the superb MARINA - Tomas Maestre – situated on the La Manga Strip. This is now being extended on the Mediterranean side and will make Tomas Maestre the biggest marina, with the best services and facilities in the Mediterranean Basin.

The exclusive LA MANGA GOLF development has three 18 hole championship courses and a wide range of sports facilities, with 7 football pitches used for training by European leagues, 28 tennis courts, cricket, squash, swimming pools, and gymnasium. There are also restaurants and the 5 Star Regency Hyatt Hotel with nightly entertainment and casino. There are currently over 10 new golf courses under construction in the area, with others in the planning stages..

SAN JAVIER (MURCIA) Airport is a small but international airport with flights from Manchester, East Midlands, Stansted, Gatwick and several other regional airports. It is within a half hour drive or less, from our developments. ALICANTE Airport is approximately an hour’s drive up the new Motorway and a NEW international Airport at CORVERA, close to Murcia town, is due to open in 2007 providing low cost flights to rival Alicante.

This very agricultural area remains unspoilt with virtually no industry and picturesque villages along the coast including the lovely traditional fishing villages of LOS NIETOS and CABO de PALOS, with its marina inlet and wide choice of superb seafood restaurants. There are several coastal towns with lovely long promenades, weekly markets and superb restaurants and shops.

The NATIONAL NATURE PARK of CALBLANQUE, one of the most beautiful parks in the Mediterranean coast, with its mountains and long stretches of unspoilt golden beaches, is just minutes away by car.

The historic town of CARTAGENA and the beautiful old town of MURCIA are within easy driving distance offering excellent shopping facilities, including El Cortes Ingles.

The area has become the place to invest for the discerning purchaser, with much of the property being purchased by the Spanish.
